Name: Julie Newton
Title: Project Coordinator
Years at Custom One: 16
Years in the Industry: 20
What is your brief professional history?
I’ve done a little of this and a little of that: retail, floral design, event planning, child care, product education, hospitality, wedding coordinator, etc.
How did you get into the custom home building industry?
I was a co-owner of a drywall company.
Favorite part of your job?
I love working with our clients and being a part of our charity, Custom One Charities.
What design trend are you digging right now?
I’m loving minimalist style–light colors, less stuff.
What’s your design style?
I would say, transitional. I like bringing a fresh take to old classics; dual-purpose furniture, unexpected pattern pairings, mid-tone woods, mixing metals, layered, natural materials that invite relaxation.
What do you wish people knew about your job or industry?
That what’s behind the walls of your new home matters just as much, if not more, than what you can see on the outside.
What’s your biggest work quirk, or what are you known for around the office?
I’m not an early riser. 😉
Where can you be found outside of work?
Usually, I can be found at home.
What are your hobbies?
I enjoy doing projects around my house, painting, or redecorating.
Do you have a pet?
I have two pets, Sam and Fiona. Sam is a black and white cat, who prefers his alone time, and Fiona is a sweet white pitty mix. She’s completely deaf, partially blind in one eye, and follows me wherever I go.
Twins or Vikings?
Vikings!
Summer or winter?
Summer, always summer!
Lake or ocean?
Either, I like being by the water.
Traveler or homebody?
Traveler, but I hate packing.
Ice cream or hamburgers?
Ice cream, I’m a vegetarian.
What’s your favorite meal or Twin Cities restaurant?
I love a good wood-fire pizza!
