Heroes of Custom One: Julie Newton — Project Coordinator

At Custom One Homes, we believe our team is what sets us apart from the rest. Their hard work, dedication, and creative spirit are what drives our business; we wouldn’t be here without them. So, we think it’s only fair to give them the recognition they deserve!

It’s time to shine the spotlight on our Project Coordinator, Julie Newton. Julie has been a part of the Custom One Homes team for 16 years, and we feel so lucky to have her! Keep reading to learn more about how Julie got started in the industry, how she serves our clients, and what she loves about working at Custom One Homes.

Name: Julie Newton
Title: Project Coordinator
Years at Custom One: 16
Years in the Industry: 20

What is your brief professional history?
I’ve done a little of this and a little of that: retail, floral design, event planning, child care, product education, hospitality, wedding coordinator, etc.

How did you get into the custom home building industry?
I was a co-owner of a drywall company.

Favorite part of your job?
I love working with our clients and being a part of our charity, Custom One Charities

What design trend are you digging right now?
I’m loving minimalist stylelight colors, less stuff.

What’s your design style?
I would say, transitional. I like bringing a fresh take to old classics; dual-purpose furniture, unexpected pattern pairingsmid-tone woods, mixing metals, layered, natural materials that invite relaxation.

What do you wish people knew about your job or industry?
That what’s behind the walls of your new home matters just as much, if not more, than what you can see on the outside.

What’s your biggest work quirk, or what are you known for around the office?
I’m not an early riser. 😉

Where can you be found outside of work?
Usually, I can be found at home.

What are your hobbies?
I enjoy doing projects around my house, painting, or redecorating.

Do you have a pet?
I have two pets, Sam and Fiona. Sam is a black and white cat, who prefers his alone time, and Fiona is a sweet white pitty mix. She’s completely deaf, partially blind in one eye, and follows me wherever I go.

Twins or Vikings?
Vikings!

Summer or winter?
Summer, always summer!

Lake or ocean?
Either, I like being by the water.

Traveler or homebody?
Traveler, but I hate packing.

Ice cream or hamburgers?
Ice cream, I’m a vegetarian.

What’s your favorite meal or Twin Cities restaurant?
I love a good wood-fire pizza!

We hope you enjoyed getting to know a little about Julie and her experience as part of the Custom One Homes team. We’ll be sharing more about the heroes of Custom One Homes, so be on the lookout for future Q&A’s!

Cozy Spaces: Our Favorite Spots to Hibernate

The holidays are behind us, which means it’s time for Minnesotans to settle in somewhere cozy and hibernate until spring. Okay, we know some hearty Midwesterners enjoy outdoor winter fun, too. But sometimes the January-March chill can only be braved under a warm blanket and next to a crackling fire.

In Scandinavian countries, where winter means months of snow, cold, and little daylight (sound familiar?), they practice the concept of Hygge. This custom is all about your attitude. It’s a mind-shift switch that embraces the season by celebrating coziness, warmth, family time, and practicing mindfulness.

If you’re ready to embrace the art of Hygge, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite comfortable client spaces to inspire you. Grab a cup of hot cocoa, light a candle, and browse through these rooms that reflect all things cozy below!

November Blanket Drive Results

In November, Custom One Homes /Custom One Charities took part in a blanket drive hosted by Bridging to collect new and gently used blankets for those in need. Each year, Bridging serves over 80 Twin Cities families as they transition from homelessness into homes and provides over 13,000 blankets. Knowing that every little bit helps, we were thrilled to participate and give back.

The blanket drive, held from November 1st through November 30th, was a huge success! We collected over 80 blankets, and Custom One Charities matched the donations with 100 pillows. Thank you to everyone who donated and a special shout out to Kristie Anderson and Trinity Lutheran Church for donating 100 pounds of blankets. We are so grateful for all of your support as we give back to our community.

Keep scrolling for a glimpse at some of our favorite moments!
